EC Is Not Perfect But… – Atik Mohammed On Jean Mensa’s Removal

Jean Mensa

Atik Mohammed has offered a word of advice to the Electoral Commission on the heels of a petition for the dismissal of the commissioners.

The commissioners, Jean Mensa, Samuel Tetteh and Dr. Bossman Eric Asare as well as EC member, Dr Peter Appiahene, according to the petitioner, have misconducted themselves and must be removed from office.

The petitioner accused the commissioners of partisanship and disenfranchising voters among other things that violate the citizens’ rights and sends a request to President John Dramani Mahama to sack the commissioners.

Atik Mohammed, a socio-political commentator, in his analysis of the petition believes it holds little to no merit but urged the commissioners to undertake some reforms saying “I can’t say the Electoral Commission is perfect. They have flaws because they are humans. Every human can err. My advice to the Electoral Commission is that be ready and willing to accept criticisms”.

He further stated; “Sometimes, not every criticism is made out of sheer malevolence. It is not because they are mischievous; they are malicious. It is sometimes to point you in the right direction.”

Atik also told the EC to “give politicians or the shareholders the confidence to believe in the fact that you continue to be neutral; you continue to be impartial…”

He made these submissions on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
