ECG Missing Containers: NDC Has Shared Them To Its Members – Ekow Assafuah Alleges

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has alleged that the missing ECG containers reported by the Energy Minister, John Jinapor, have been sold to sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The parliamentarian and a devout member of the opposition New Patriotic Party wondered how 1300 containers filled with electrical cables and other essential equipment could vanish from the Tema Port, only to be told they have been found in individuals’ warehouses.

A joint operation by National Security has led to the arrest of twelve Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian in connection with the disappearance of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at the Tema Port.

The arrest came after investigators traced cables, suspected to be part of the missing shipment, to an aluminum smelting facility owned by the Chinese nationals at Shai Hills.

Also, an indian is said to have been apprehended in possession of 40 of the containers.

Chief Supt. Alhasan Osman, the Director of Investigation at the National Security Council, confirmed the arrests in an interview with the media.

Reacting to these discoveries, Vincent Assafuah found it ridiculous for any person to link the incident to the previous Akufo-Addo government.

He believed the containers have been given to NDC loyalists.

“Do you 1300 containers? Do you how many shifts that will bring that thing here in Ghana which is missing? No, it can’t. It’s not possible! Even the 40 containers they claim to have found in an Indian warehouse, because the containers are so huge, one warehouse cannot house all the 1300.

“So, there are other warehouses that you have to follow up and go find our containers for us. We never knew you were coming to sell them to your own people”, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
