Election 2024: Bawumia Leads Mahama; Ticked To Win Dec 7

Recent survey by Prof. Smart Sarpong, a Senior Researcher, has placed the presidential candidate for New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.

Prof. Smart Sarpong, on Thursday, November 21, has released his final findings on the December 7 elections dubbed “Who Wins Elections 2024?” and regarding the upcoming presidential elections, there is an expectation of 81.4 percent turnout.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, according to the survey, is leading with 49.1% while John Mahama gets 45.8% followed by Nana Kwame Bediako with 2.2% and Alan Kyeremateng with 1.2%.

On Regional statistics, seven Regions comprising Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East and Western Regions are the leading regions powering the NPP’s 49.1% lead.

Nine Regions consisting of Bono East, Greater Accra, Northern, Oti, Savanna, Upper East, Upper West, Volta and Western North Regions are also powering the NDC’s 45.8%.

The research however indicated that the impending elections can be “won at the first round by ONLY one of the two leading political parties, with the NPP having a higher chance of clinching a first-round victory”.

Prof. Smart Sarpong used a sample size of 99,335 out of over 18 million electoral population size with 4,272 communities taking part in the survey.
