Election 2024: EC Recruits About 210,000 Officers, Ballot Papers Distributed To Police Armouries
As Ghana approaches its highly anticipated December elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) says it has made significant progress in its preparations.
At a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce the Chairperson of the Commission indicated that ballot papers have been distributed to Police Regional Armouries in all but three regions, with plans in place to complete distribution by the end of the day.
In addition, Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) have already been sent to eight regions, with the remaining devices expected to be delivered by the weekend.
The EC has been working closely with political parties, the Ghana Police, and other stakeholders throughout the ballot printing and distribution process to ensure transparency and efficiency.
In a bid to ensure the smooth running of the elections, the Commission has recruited about 210,000 officers who are being trained.
To further support their preparation, the EC has developed short videos that will be shared with the officers as refresher materials after training.
One of the key innovations this year is the introduction of Aid Memoirs, which will be placed at all collation centers.
These documents are designed to facilitate the collation process and provide guidance on addressing potential challenges, such as requests for re-collation.
The EC has confirmed that Special Voting for security agencies, election officers, and the media will take place on Monday, 2nd December, while the main election day is set for Saturday, 7th December.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare has expressed confidence in the preparedness of the security agencies to maintain peace before, during, and after the elections.
He commended the Electoral Commission for its thorough and transparent efforts, noting that the police have been closely involved in the process throughout.
