Galamsey: Declare ‘State Of Emergency’ With Immediate Effect Or We Go On Strike – Organized Labour To Prez Akufo-Addo
Organised labour has admonished the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to, with immediate effect, declare a state of emergency over the illegal mining (galamsey) in the country.
They’ve asked the President to halt all mining activities in forest reserves and water bodies and order an immediate evacuation of the mining equipment as well as revoke all licences.
The group gives government an ultimatum by the end of September to heed their call and threaten to embark on nationwide strike if the President fails to meet the deadline.
“ORGANIZED LABOUR will urgently embark on series of demonstrations and a nationwide strike if government fails to address the concerns raised by end of September 2024. We call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join organized labour in the fight against this menace”, they issued a statement.
