Galamsey Fight: Because Of Your Political Interest, Ghana Should Be Destroyed – Atik Blasts Akufo-Addo
Atik Mohammed has taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding galamsey which has become the bane of the economy.
The illegal miners have been destroying the water bodies and environment and it has become even more a serious matter of concern today as Ghana Water Company and Ghana Health Service warn against the implications of this galamsey menace.
In order to compel the President to take punitive action against the galamseyers, Organized Labour threatened a strike action but subsequently called it off after meeting the President who promised them he is taking measures to address the issue.
Currently, over 100 soldiers have been deployed to the galamsey sites and the President has instructed a suspension of mining in forest reserves among others as a way of dealing with this canker.
Atik Mohammed, a former PNC General Secretary, blasted the President for failing to fully address the menace.
“So, now because of politics, you are finding it difficult to take the hard decisions because you did it some time ago and according to you, you lost some seats. So, you don’t want to lose some seats, therefore Ghana should be destroyed because you don’t want to lose some seats”, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
“Why do people go into politics?”, he questioned and answered; “You are doing that to serve us. Now, your personal interest and the interest of the your party is much more supreme to you than the collective interest and this is not why we do politics.”
Atik insisted that there should be a cessation of small-scale and artisanal mining activities, believing this is the only way to resolve the matter.
“Government has not shown enough resolve to deal with the problem”, he concluded.
