Galamsey Fight: We’re Joking In This Country – Effia MP Kicks Against Mahama’s ‘Blue Water Guard’ Initiative

Isaac Boamah-Nyarko

Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko is disappointed in the approach by governments in fighting galamsey.

According to the lawmaker, no government in Ghana is committed to the fight against the illegal mining activities.

To him, this menace is as a result of political complicity and the fact that politicians are benefiting from this mining canker.

“There’s no commitment from any government, whether Akufo-Addo, John Mahama or whatever government. There is no commitment”, he exclaimed while speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.

Hon. Boamah-Nyarko made these remarks in relation to President John Mahama’s initiative dubbed “Blue Water Guard” aimed at training at least 2000 Ghanaian youth to guard the water bodies.

The legislator believes this approach will not work, stressing “there is no political will and where there is no political will, whatever we are doing is jokes”.

“We are joking as a country”, he added.

The Effia MP admonished the President to take the bull by the horns saying “the complex nature of it all is that every government and their people are complicit. If the President says he wants to leave a legacy in Ghana, he should walk the talk”.
