Galamsey Fight: Where Were You When Akufo-Addo Put His Presidency On The Line? – NAPO Blasts Organized Labour, UTAG
NPP Running Mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has slammed Organized Labour and UTAG over their strike threat to government regarding illegal mining, commonly called “galamsey”.
Organized Labour threatened a nationwide strike but it was foiled after some members decided not to strike, however UTAG which is also a member of Organized Labour has proceeded with their strike.
Nonetheless, NUGS and some section of UTAG have called on their leadership to cancel the strike.
These strikes and demonstrations were intended to compel the President to suspend all mining activities in the country.
In an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called “NAPO”, has questioned the integrity of Organized Labour on the issue of galamsey, asking why they were silent when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, started fighting the illegal miners prior to the 2020 elections.
“Did you hear NDC supporting Nana Addo’s relentless fight on illegal mining? Did you hear any Organized Labour issue support?”, he queried.
He labeled the current strike actions as illegal stating “now, they claim Catholic Priests are matching; they are all instigated matches. Where were they when Nana Addo put his Presidency and his party suffered because of that to protect the environment. I didn’t hear Organized Labour. I didn’t hear UTAG”.
“The first illegal strike that we have seen in this country is from Organized Labour. When we mention Organized Labour, it is a combination of private and public sector workers. To say they should go on demonstration for 3 months, do you want factories to collapse”, he stressed.F
