Gov’t Has Spent Over $300 Million On Galamsey Fight But… – Charles Owusu Reveals

Charles Owusu

Charles Owusu has rebuked the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and his officials for the adverse impact of illegal mining, locally called “galamsey”.

Galamsey has become a serious matter of concern to many Ghanaians with the illegal miners’ activities destroying the water bodies and enviroment.

Following public outbursts, the President has instructed the deployment of soldiers to the galamsey sites in a renewed effort to stop this mining canker.

Over 100 soldiers have been deployed to the sites and as at Thursday, October 10, about 18 chanfan machines were burned to discourage the miners.

Dubbed “Operation Halt”, the Military is tasked to ensure no galamsey operation goes on in the country.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Charles Owusu blamed the authorities for shirking their duties resulting in the degeneration of galamsey.

To him, the President will be blamed because he is hardly seen cracking the whip on his officials, especially those with responsibility to curb the menace.

Charles Owusu also found the President to have caused financial loss to the State in the fight against galamsey.

“I am told that we have spent over 300 million dollars since from 2017 in fighting galamsey. That means the money we have spent is causing financial loss to the State”, he said.
