Gov’t To Pay Over GH¢5 Million For Demolishing Bulgarian Embassy FALSE! – Lands Minister Refutes Ablakwa’s Claims

Samuel Abu Jinapor, Lands Minister

The Lands Ministry has refuted claims by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, that government is required to pay over GH¢5 million in compensation to the Bulgarian Embassy.

Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that this compensation amounting to GH₵5,383,000 is to be paid by the Government of Ghana under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Bulgarian government for the demolition of its embassy in Ghana in 2017.

But the Ministry says there is no such financial obligation between Ghana and the Bulgarian government.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, Mr. Ablakwa’s claims are misleading.

“The attention of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has, again, been drawn to allegations by the North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to the effect that government is supposed to pay the Bulgarian Embassy an amount of GH¢5,383,000 for demolishing their building.”

“A cursory reading of the Executive Summary of the Report of the Sole Inquirer appointed to investigate the matter, which was published in a Press Release issued on 16th May 2022, and the documents attached to the MP’s post, will show that this allegation is false, and without basis”, portions of the statement read.
