He Did Nothing Wrong!!! Committee Clears IGP Dampare

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has been cleared of any wrongdoing and the accusations that were leveled against him by some senior officers of the Service.
A 19-page document covering findings of the parliamentary investigation into a leaked tape regarding plans by some senior officers to remove the Inspector-General of Police has been found to be infested with lies.
It could be recalled that some senior officers were caught on a tape recording accusing the IGP of being in bed with the ruling New Patriotic Party and aiming to rig the upcoming general elections as well as mistreating Police officers.
These allegations were brought before a Committee of Inquiry in Parliament who brought all the parties including the accused before them to ascertain the truth.
The event which was televised saw the officers make several other accusations against the IGP but Dr. Dampare claimed his innocence and refuted all the allegations.
The Committee, in their findings, has acquitted the IGP and describes the actions of the officers as a danger to Ghana’s democracy.
“The conspiracy by COP Mensah, Supt Asare and Supt Gyebi to remove the IGP based purely on partisan considerations, could undermine free, fair, and transparent elections and, ultimately, the sanctity of Ghana’s democracy”, the report said, adding “COP Alex Mensah, Supt Asare and Supt Gyebi indeed conspired to cause the removal of the IGP and have him replaced with a loyalist of the NPP, and acting on that, resolved to meet the President to accomplish their goal”.
Two of the officers were also, according to the report, said to have committed perjury before the Committee.
“The Committee is of the view that Supt Asare and Supt Gyebi appeared to have acted in contempt of Parliament pursuant to Order 30 of the Standing Orders of Parliament (2000) as revised by Order 13 )1( of the Standing Orders of Parliament (2024) In this regard, the Committee is of the opinion that the matter be referred to the Privileges Committee for appropriate action.”
