‘Honorable’ MPs Behave Dishonorably As Chaos Breaks During Vetting
A heated confrontation between the Majority and Minority caucuses of the Parliament’s Appointments Committee yesterday led to chaos during the vetting of two ministerial nominees, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for the Health Ministry and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The two Ministers-designate were added to the nominees to be vetted on Thursday, January 30 but the Minority complained about limited time to vet them and also a breach of the itinerary for the day stating they were already done with the list agreed upon for the day.
A misunderstanding broke out as the two caucuses argued about whether or not to carry on the vetting which had almost running into late night.
As the majority members insisted the vetting must continue, the minority requested it should be postponed to Friday, January 31, 2025, resulting in a near brawl between them.
They destroyed tables and microphones during the kerfuffle, hence calling for Police intervention.
Meanwhile, the vetting of the nominees has been postponed to today with theKwabena Mintah Akandoh already vetted and Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa arriving for his turn.
