How Can Chief Justice Empanel Judges To Hear Her Own Case? – Kwesi Pratt Defends Mahama’s CJ Suspension

Kwesi Pratt

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt has taken a shot at the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) members and those protesting President John Dramani Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as she awaits the Supreme Court hearing on petitions to remove her.

The President has stirred agitations from the Ghana Bar Association and the NPP as well as Organizer Labour who are asking the President to rescind his decision.

The NPP and some Ghanaians hit the streets on Monday, May 5, 2025, in protest against the attempted dismissal of the Chief Justice.

But Kwesi Pratt shares dissenting views over the position of the NPP and other critics.

To him, the President has done nothing wrong by suspending the Chief Justice.

“As we speak today, the process of removing the Chief Justice is in the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court is yet to hear the case” and those saying the suspension should be lifted, “if that happens, it means the Chief Justice will empanel judges to hear her own case. Have you heard this before? In which country have you heard that the Chief Justice empanels judges to hear her own case? I can’t understand this!“, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.
