How Can National Security Just Raid Someone’s Home? – Pratt Condemns Ofori-Atta’s Home Raid

Richard Jakpa

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has reprimanded Richard Jakpa and some armed men who raided former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s private residence.

The team believed to be led by Richard Jakpa who has been appointed as the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat stormed Ofori-Atta’s home for reasons yet to be known.

However, the raid happened coincidentally during a press conference by the Special Prosecutor as he declared the former Minister a “wanted fugitive”.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has accused Ofori-Atta of his involvement in a shady deal between the Ghana Revenue Authority and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) as well as the controversial spending of $58 million of taxpayers’ money in the failed construction of the National Cathedral.

“The OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta a wanted fugitive. Mr Ofori Atta, you have two choices, you can return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or face the consequences”, “he is a fugitive from justice”, Mr. Agyebeng said at a press conference but Ofori-Atta’s lawyers say their client is in the USA receiving medical treatment.

“Please find attached hereto a document indicating that our client is receiving medical attention at the Mayo Clinic in the USA, detailing his appointments and timelines suggestive of a post-March date when our client may be able to be in Ghana”, Ofori-Atta wrote to the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Kwesi Pratt, without holding brief for Ken Ofori-Atta, vehemently condemns the raid, asking “can the National Security just enter and raid somebody’s home?”

To him, irrespective of a person’s political color, no one has the right to invade his or her home.

“Who wrote the arrest warrant?…What is the validity of the arrest warrant?”, he further questioned the authority of Jakpa and his men.

Such behavior, he asserted, mustn’t be tolerated stressing it doesn’t augur well for the nation.

Mr. Pratt made these remarks on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.
