‘I Don’t Have Access To My Log-In Account’ – Afua Asantewaa Explains Why She Kept Her GWR Result A Secret
Ghanaian Guinness World Records sing-a-thon contender, Afua Asantewaa has explained why she failed to communicate her disqualification to Ghanaians following her singing marathon.
Afua’s record attempt was disqualified by the Guinness World Records (GWR) and Ghanaians got to know only after a fan contacted the Records to explain their delay in announcing the result.
After submitting her works to the Guinness World Records and after weeks of assessment, the organizers responded; “Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”
After the GWR shared the truth publicly, some Ghanaians began lambasting Afua Asantewaa for keeping the result to herself and not sharing it with them, especially when they came out to support her during her attempt.
They described her behavior as “deceitful” but Afua has finally broken her silence.
According to her, she couldn’t share the information with the public because there was a miscommunication between her and the Guinness World Records.
“…there is no way I will hold to a result such as this. I’m very strong personality and I believe in not giving up and regardless of the outcome being it successful or non-successful, I would have still shared with Ghanaians anyways. So, I spoke about a miscommunication with GWR”, she disclosed in an interview with GhOne TV.
Afua expounded that her inability to tell Ghanaians she had been disqualified was also because she is not able to access her log-in account details.
“It had to do with my log-in account; I don’t have access. So, as I sit, I don’t have official document to even post on my social media that this is my disqualification letter. I can’t access my account”, she stressed and apologized to the nation, stating “I think that I haven’t disappointed Ghanaians”.
