‘I Went Through The Process; No Glitches, No Hitches’ – Travelers Excited Over Bawumia’s E-Gate At KIA
A number of Ghanaian travellers returning home from abroad have expressed joy and satisfaction at the effectiveness of the electronic gates at the Kotoka International Airport.
The e-gate, launched a few weeks ago by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is a digital boarder control system which allows Ghana Card holders to be processed rapidly without joining long queues.
Travelers only have to scan their Ghana Card on a device attached to the special electronic glass gates and their data is read in real time giving them a swift passage.
As the Kotoka International Airport gets busy and crowded especially during the festive season, this digital innovation has been welcomed by the travelers who enjoyed a seamless experience.
A number of them gave their testimonies to journalists who were on visit to the airport to observe the effectiveness of the e-gate.
“I’m very delighted to be home. I went through the process. No glitches; no hitches, everything just went through. And it’s quite nice actually because when you travel around Europe and America, you see all of these happening and you’re like when is it going to happen in my country. So hey Ghana akwaaba”, an excited traveler said.
Another traveler stated; “We are making progress and I’m loving it. As long as you know what you’re doing, you put your card on the scanner and it takes the information and the second scanner you just have to look into the camera and the door opens. So, I suspect it’s using some kind of infrared information.”
While sharing their excitement and relief, the travelers who used the e-gates showered praises on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for this innovation.
“Very perfect. This is my first time of using it and I’m very happy. Thank you to whoever did this for Ghana. Thank you.”
“We should put politics aside, it works perfectly. It didn’t take me, just like a minute, and it worked so perfectly”, the travelers shared their delight over Bawumia’s digital initiative.
The Ghana Immigration has also said it intends to install the e-gates at all airports across the country as well as other entry points of the country.
It is part of a new comprehensive digital boarder control system dubbed “Immigration 360”.
Launching the e-gates last month, Vice President Bawumia described it as “world class”, stressing it showed Ghana’s ability to do things normally associated with developed countries.
