I’m Happy To Fly ‘Economy Class’ If… – Foreign Minister-Designate Okudzeto Ablakwa
Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says he will not abuse his office by flying luxury jets.
According to him, he will conduct himself properly ensuring he doesn’t become extravagant in his expenses.
He gave this assurance during his vetting before the Appointments Committee in Parliament when asked a question on which class he would fly as the Foreign Minister of Ghana, particularly when he had been very vocal on the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo allegedly using luxurious private jets.
Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa, in his response, placed on record that “when given the nod as Foreign Minister, I shall never ever rent a 20000 Euros an hour luxury jet. Never, ever, I shall never ever do that; so you have my full assurances”.
He further stated that he will fly economy class if need be.
“Now, on the matter of business/economy, Hon. Chair, I am wondering why Members of Parliament who fly business class don’t want a Foreign Minister to fly business class. I am really wondering what this is about and where they are headed but I can assure you, Hon. Chairman, that I don’t care a hoot which class I travel.
“If we get into economic difficulties and there is a policy that Ministers should travel economy, I am happy to travel economy because even as MP, there are times that I travel economy when I can and I don’t see it as a big deal”, he emphasized.
