Increase Betting Tax To 60% Instead Of Removing It – Mahama Told

2024 independent parliamentary candidate for Nkoranza North, Charles Owusu has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama not to remove the betting tax.

The erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration imposed a 10% tax on all betting games.

Hence, all persons involved in the games forfeited this fraction to the government aimed at ensuring infrastructure and other development projects in the country.

Nonetheless, this tax was vehemently met with aggression from the masses but the government refused to erase it.

During the 2024 electioneering period, the President, John Dramani Mahama, promised to remove the betting and electronic transaction taxes (E-Levy).

This among other pledges won him a second term as he was declared winner of the 2024 general elections.

As the youth await the President to fulfill his promise, Charles Owusu strongly dissents to the cancellation of the betting tax.

“Don’t remove the betting tax? Let it stay; the E-Levy can be removed but not the betting tax”, he appealed to Mahama while speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.

Charles Owusu proposed that the betting tax should be increased from 10% to 60 percent.
