It’s Best To Remove Yourself From Ongoing National Security Operations, Given Your History! – Kwesi Pratt Tells Jakpa

Kwesi Pratt

Editor-in-Chief of Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has asked Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, to recuse himself from the raids of officials of the previous Akufo-Addo government.

The seasoned journalist questioned Jakpa’s involvement in the ongoing operation, alluding to the latter’s history.

National Security Raids former BoG Governor’s House

National Security operatives led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, raided the private residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addision.

The raid occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at the victim’s Roman Ridge property in Accra.

According to eye witness accounts, heavily armed men, some in balaclavas, wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, stormed the residence.

They are said to have first disabled the CCTV system and demanded to find Dr Addison’s “vaults”in his house.

Dr. Addison, in response, denied having a vault or a stash of cash in his home.

This, however, did not deter the security operatives as they continued to dishevel the place for unknown reasons nor tell their motive behind the raid.

Ken Ofori Atta’s Home Invasion

Also, the security operatives led by the same Jakpa stormed the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta with armed soldiers in the absence of the Minister.

CCTV footage showed the operatives entering Ofori-Atta’s residence in a pickup vehicle and ransacking the place.

Reason for this home invasion remains unknown.

Controversy About Richard Jakpa

Last year, Richard Jakpa and the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, then Minority Leader, were accused before a High Court of causing financial loss of €2.37 million to the State in a deal to purchase 200 ambulances for the country between 2014 and 2016.

Per the former Attorney-General, Godfred Dame’s facts accompanying the charge sheet, in 2009, while delivering the State of the Nation Address, the then President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, indicated that new ambulances would be purchased to expand the operations of the National Ambulance Service.

Jakpa, a local representative of Big Sea General Trading Limited, a company based in Dubai, approached the Ministry of Health with a proposal that he had arranged for finance from Stanbic Bank for supply of the 200 ambulances but subsequently 30 ambulances were purchased at a sum of €2.37 million, however all were found “not fit for purpose”.

Kwesi Pratt’s Reply

To Mr. Pratt, looking at the controversies that have surrounded Jakpa in the past, he needs not to be part of the operations to avoid the likelihood of him (Jakpa) taking the raids personal.

He noted that based on Jakpa’s past record, it would only be right that he may be pained, hence act out of pains which could jeopardize the operations.

“Given his (Jakpa) history, if he were removed him from these operations, it would better help to reduce these accusations of prejudice, witchhunting, vegeance and so forth. I’m not saying he doesn’t do his job well but just common sense should tell us that this person should asbtain from these operations”, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
