It’s Not Enough To Say You’re Fair, Be Seen To Be Fair – EC Told
Atik Mohammed has charged the Electoral Commission to exercise its duties in fairness to all candidates contesting the December polls.
Thirteen candidates will be going into the elections, each with hope of winning it.
The candidates, on Friday, picked their positions on the ballot paper; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, is number 1 while his main contender, John Dramani Mahama, leader of the National Democratic Congress, comes 8th.
The two main independent candidates, Nana Kwame Bediako alias IamFreedom or Cheddar and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen picked the 12th and 13th positions respectively.
As the nation awaits December 7, Atik has messaged the Commission to be transparent with all parties before and during the elections.
“It’s not just enough to say you’re fair but be seen to be fair. The Electoral Commission has three or four things to do; to be transparent, fair, to ensure that we have free elections and then credible elections.
“The referee should have no interest and I dare say that they have no interest in whoever becomes what because their job is to superintend over the process to a successful end. But sometimes their conduct can send some wrong signals and that is why I am cautioning that the Electoral Commission must not only be fair but must be seen to be fair as well”, he remaked on “Kokrokoo” morning programme on Peace FM.
