Jakpa’s Leaked Tape: ‘Ugly, Disgusting’ Press Conference! – Kabilla Blasts NDC

James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly called “Kabilla”, has taken a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their press conference regarding the ambulance purchase trial involving Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Ato Forson and one Richard Jakpa have been charged at the Accra High Court for causing financial loss of €2.37 million to the State in a deal to buy 200 ambulances for Ghana.

According to the A-G’s facts, the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, in 2009, disclosed new ambulances would be procured to improve the operations of the National Ambulance Service.

He informed the nation about the decision to buy 200 ambulances but only 30 ambulances were purchased at a sum of €2.37 million.

The purchase of the 30 ambulances was spearheaded by Richard Jakpa and Ato Forson who was then the Deputy Finance Minister.

Jakpa was a local representative of a Dubai-based company called Big Sea General Trading Limited and, in respect of the transaction, approached the Ministry of Health with a proposal he had arranged for finance from Stanbic Bank for the supply of the 200 ambulances

During cross-examination in court before the trial judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, Richard Jakpa stated that the Attorney-General and himself had met at the private residence of a Supreme Court Justice, Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, in a supposed plea bargain negotiation.

“A-G has on several occasions engaged me at odd hours to help him make a case against A1 and I have evidence for that. If he pushes me, I will open the Pandora’s box.”

“I don’t understand why the A-G will accuse me of defending A1 when I’m here to defend myself”, Jakpa said in court.

On the trial, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) played a secret audio recording between Jakpa and the Attorney-General which, to them, discredits Mr. Godfred Dame at their press conference.

As a result, they call for Attorney-General to resign from office.

Discussing the issue on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, James Kwabena Bomfeh, a former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), found the NDC press conference unnecessary stating “it’s ugly. It’s nauseating. It’s untidy, disgusting. We should stop this; it’s very disgusting”.

He argued the Attorney-General should not be tried in the court of opinion and that if the NDC nor any person has anything against him, they should use the appropriate forum which is either the Ghana Legal Council or the court.

“Is the NDC standing trial? So, what is the business of the NDC in this matter?”, he fumed.
