Joseph Yamin’s Attempt To Seize Bullion Bars Potential To Harm Ghana’s Reputation On International Bullion Market – PMMC
The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) has raised concerns over an incident that occurred at the National Assay Centre situated at the Aviance Cargo Terminal involving the National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin.
Joseph Yamin is reported to have led a mob to forcibly seize bullion bars being processed by the PMMC.
The incident happened on Tuesday, December 17 at around 6 pm and lasted for hours.
According to the PMMC, the bullion bars belong to the Bank of Ghana as part of ongoing Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
Due to a long altercation in relation with Joseph Yamin’s action and resulting in a standoff, the Police were called to intervene.
“This unlawful action is deeply regretted and has the potential to cause significant harm to Ghana’s reputation on the international bullion market”, a statement by the PMMC said.
