KPMG/SML Report: You Won’t Be Allowed To Study Report In Perpetuity – Akufo-Addo Told
President for the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), University of Ghana branch, Professor Ransford Gyampo has impressed upon President Nana Akufo-Addo to make the KPMG/SML report in his possession public.
President Akufo-Addo has been handed the KPMG audit report regarding the revenue mobilization contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd (SML).
The report was delivered to him on Wednesday, March 27, as announced in a Facebook post by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, on Wednesday, April 3.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, 27th March 2024, received from KPMG its report on the audit conducted, at the behest of the President, on the transactions between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML). President Akufo-Addo is studying the findings of the audit report, and will, in due course, make his decisions known to the Ghanaian people”, he posted.
But critics have raised issues with the President’s silence over the report, particularly why he failed to inform Ghanaians after receiving it.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”, Prof. Ransford Gyampo told host Nana Yaw Kesseh that “the President will be allowed to study the report in perpetuity” and that he should hasten to tell Ghanaians what it entails.
“The President should understand that Ghanaians have a keen interest in this matter. Even if they forget, some of us will resurrect and remind them just for the purposes of keeping them on their toes that they should make the content of the report public and any person who is guilty should be punished”, he cautioned.
He also warned the President about the implications of his failure to declare the contents of the report.
“President Akufo-Addo must be interested in thinking about the legacy that he will be leaving as President for his own party that has the quest to break the eight”, Prof. Gyampo advised.
