Kwesi Nyantakyi Goes Free; Court Drops 5-Year Case

An Accra High Court has discharged former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, and his co-accused after five years of legal tussle.

This ruling, delivered by Her Ladyship Justice Marie-Louise Simmonds, was upheld due to the failure of the prosecution to call a single witness to testify against Mr. Nyantakyi.

Despite presenting five potential witnesses, the Republic was unable to secure testimony, according to a publication by Myjoyonline.

The final witness, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, whose investigative piece purported criminality against Kwesi Nyantakyi resulting in his resignation in 2018 and subsequent ban by FIFA from all football-related activities, also refused to testify unless allowed to wear a mask against court order to testify without his signature mask.

With no evidence presented, the court found no basis to continue the case and has set Mr. Nyantakyi free.
