Leave EC To Do Their Work – Atik Chides NDC
Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed has admonished political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress, not to interfere in the work of Electoral Commission (EC).
Atik charged the parties to desist from usurping the EC’s authority to declare election results and stop pressuring them regarding the voter’s register.
He asked them to leave the EC alone, stressing the need for them to have faith in the Commission’s impartiality.
“Let’s allow the Electoral Commission to do their work…Let’s all have faith in the fact that the Electoral Commission is impartial and that they will do their work well.”
Atik’s comment made on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show was also in relation to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s remarks at the annual conference of the Ghana Bar Association.
The President, delivering a speech, stated; “It is imperative that the Electoral Commission remains the sole authority responsible for declaring election results, to preserve the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.”
He further charged the security agencies to effectively play their role before, during and after the elections.
“They should ensure that they act within the confines of the law, protecting the rights of all citizens while preventing any form of violence or intimidation by enforcing strictly the law against vigilantism”, the President stated.
