Mahama’s Budget Lacks Planning – UPSA Professor Says
Professor Isaac Boadi, the Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Professional Studies – Accra, has expressed disappointment in the 2025 budget of the Mahama administration.
The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Tuesday, March 11, presented the budget before Parliament and highlighted measures the government is undertaking to ease the hardships of Ghanaians.
Among some of the things that comes as good news to the citizenry is the cancellation of betting tax and the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
The Minister also promised to remove other taxes as well as allocate substantial amount of money to cushion various sectors of the economy to improve the citizens’ living conditions.
But to Professor Isaac Boadi, this budget “lacks planning”.
He explained on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show that considering the statements of President John Damani Mahama that his government inherited a broke economy, it was expected that the budget would capture their flagship programme dubbed “24-hour economy” which is believed to be a drive for economic growth.
But to Prof. Boadi, this 24-hour economy policy wasn’t featured in the budget, wondering why the government didn’t highlight this big policy.
He also questioned the source of funding for the government’s “Big Push” initiative which is a $10 billion infrastructure investment plan, though 13.7 million cedis was mentioned in the budget for this project.
“Where will the funding sources come from?”, he queried.
