‘MPs Behaving Like Boarding School Students Fighting Over Lack of Sugar In Their Food’ – Pratt Jabs Appointments Committee
Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt has reprehended the members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee involved in Thursday’s violent altercations.
Some MPs who form the Committee resorted to the use of violence to make their case.
They broke microphones and tables in protest against vetting Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Ministers-designate for Foreign Affairs and Health respectively, as they argued these two were not listed as part of the day’s itinerary.
In view of this behavior of the Committee members, the Speaker of the House, Alban Bagbin, has suspended four Members of Parliament (MPs).
The four; Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (Majority Whip and South Dayi MP), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Minority Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Alhassan Tampuli (Gushegu) and Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe) have been suspended for 2 weeks.
Though some persons with vast parliamentary experience, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Nana Akomea, have dissented to the action taken by the Speaker citing some reasons infractions of orders of Parliament, many Ghanaians support the suspension.
The Speaker also announced that MPs found guilty of misconduct will be surcharged for damages caused.
Kwesi Pratt, voicing his sentiments on the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, found the MPs’ behavior very shameful.
He likened it to “boarding school students fighting over a lack of sugar in their food, hence causing riot”.
He further slammed the MPs stating the incident on Thursday night, January 30, “doesn’t befit our parliamentarians. It is very bad!”
