‘Nobody Can Bring Peace To Bawku Without The People Of Bawku’ – Kabilla

James Kwabena Bomfeh

James Kwabena Bomfeh has waded into discussions about the escalating conflict at Bawku in the Upper East Region.

There are heightened concerns over the Bawku conflict with calls made on the King of Asante, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to mediate and ensure peace in the community.

The Bawku violent situation has resulted in some residents sustaining various degrees of injuries and others fatally shot.

IGP Intervenes In Bawku Conflict

In view of the current happenings at Bawku which has not only put the residents’ lives at stake but also endangering the lives of officers of the Ghana Police Service stationed in the area, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, visiting the community, pleaded with the aggrieved parties to lay down their weapons.

He promised to recruit the residents, stating “I am giving them the assurance that they should put down their arms. We have a lot of people in the police service now who came from this area, and we realise that they have helped a lot in the discharge of their duties as officers”.

The IGP expounded; “The assurance we gave to them was that ‘put down your weapons, and when it comes to recruitment, we will give you the advantage to participate, go through the normal process.’ I didn’t say anything wider to maybe shove the requirement, but it looks as if the media is reporting something different; they will go through the normal process.”

The IGP has also prohibited his officers from moving around without protective gear and armored escort.

Calls For Otumfuo Mediation

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has accepted the calls to mediate the conflict.

The Asantehene, in a statement dated April 15, 2025, has announced his mediation sessions will take place from April 28 to May 1 at his palace in Kumasi.

“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis as agreed with both parties from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi. Asantehene requests all stakeholders to cooperate for us to find a lasting peace in Bawku,” the statement from Manhyia palace read.

Nobody Can Bring Peace To Bawku

Commenting on this disturbing development, James Kwabena Bomfeh, alias Kabilla, partially believed in the mediation process stressing “nobody can bring peace to Bawku without the people of Bawku…The resolution is in Bawku”.

Kabilla called for a ceasefire between the conflicting parties saying “the fight won’t bring anything better to us. It is destroying our image”.

He however expressed delight over Otumfuo’s mediation role in the situation.

“I am happy about Otumfuo’s invitation into the matter,” he remarked on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.
