NPP Losing 2024 Elections Wasn’t Because Bawumia Is A Muslim; In Fact, It Had Zero Impact – Global InfoAnalytics Boss Says

Mussa Dankwah

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s religious affiliation as a Muslim has been widely touted as one of the factors that caused his defeat in the December 7 general elections last year.

It could be recalled that prior to the elections, some renowned Christian leaders, particularly the Founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Apostle Isaac Owusu Bempah, and General Overseer of Perez Dome, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, were said to have protested Bawumia’s candidature on grounds of him being a Muslim.

Apostle Owusu Bempah purportedly discouraged his congregants from voting for a Muslim as he argued electing a Muslim President would be a huge blot on Christianity which is the predominant religion in Ghana.

Aftermath analysis of the 2024 elections suggests this religious characterization played a key role in Dr. Bawumia’s loss.

But Mussa Dankwah, one of the Ghana’s leading researchers, dissents to this widespread assertion.

Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”, says the religious card played no role in the New Patriotic Party’s defeat.

According to him, his findings which mainly pointed to the victory of the current President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, doesn’t support this claim that Bawumia partly suffered because he is a Muslim.

“…that’s not backed by data. In fact, look, ethnicity is even more serious than religion in this country. Yes. Ethnicity ranks higher than religion in this country.”

“Technically not in this election. No! It was a subtle issue that [it] wasn’t prominent. It wouldn’t be a reason why he would lose this election.

“No, it wouldn’t be why he will or he lost this election. It didn’t play a major role for that would have been fatal for him in this election”, he remarked.
