Ofori-Atta Vs OSP: Allow Kissi Agyebeng To Do His Job – Charles Owusu
Charles Owusu has backed the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, for declaring former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, a wanted fugitive.
The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) says the former Finance Minister is wanted to assist in investigations into corruption cases which involves the Ghana Revenue Authority and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) controversial deal and the construction of the National Cathedral which currently remains a hole despite the alleged spending of $58 million of government money.
In the case of Ofori-Atta being invited by the OSP, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers, in a letter to the OSP, indicated he is out of Ghana on health grounds and will make himself available when he returns to Ghana but according to Kissi Agyebeng, “the purported medical letter transmitted through his lawyers to the OSP does not establish or demonstrate that he is incapable of returning. The OSP remains unconvinced that the letter constitutes a valid medical report proving that Mr Ofori-Atta is so ill or physically incapacitated that returning to Ghana would imperil his life”.
He added; “No serious law enforcement agency, and certainly not the OSP, will be convinced that the purported medical letter prevents it from demanding Mr Ofori-Atta’s physical appearance before it under the described circumstances.”
“The OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta a wanted fugitive. Mr Ofori Atta, you have two choices, you can return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or face the consequences”, “he is a fugitive from justice” and stressed “you can either return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or the OSP will enforce your return”, he stressed.
Commenting on this matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Charles Owusu found nothing wrong with the Special Prosecutor’s action.
The former Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission alluded to similar incidents involving him and his church Pastor which occurred under the previous Akufo-Addo government.
He reminisced when his Pastor, Apostle Isaac Owusu Bempah, was arrested and policed by armed officers while he was in the hospital receiving medical treatment and handcuffed to his sickbed; something Charles Owusu finds extremely preposterous.
He also reminded Ghanaians how he was personally treated by the Office of Special Prosecutor in connection with the late former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie’s will.
Charles Owusu recounted going to the OSP and waiting for hours with no one attending to him, only for him to be later waylaid and served a writ of summon from the High Court.
“Where was the rule of law?”, he fumed, stressing if the Akufo-Addo government saw “no evil” in arresting his Pastor, then Kissi Agyebeng has equally done nothing unusual.
To him, “he (Kissi Agyebeng) is doing his job, so Ken Ofori-Atta should return from wherever he is and defend himself because there’s nothing wrong with telling someone to account for what he has done. I have nothing against whatever Kissi Agyebeng is doing; allow him to do his work”.
