Ofori-Atta’s House Raid: Mahama Ayariga’s Apology Is ‘Baseless’ And ‘Misjudgment’ – Kwesi Pratt

Mahama Ayariga

Kwesi Pratt has slammed Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga over his apology regarding the raid at the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s private residence.

Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, and some armed military personnel forcibly entered the home of the former Minister for undisclosed reasons.

Initially, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng had said the raid was staged by Ofori-Atta to purportedly disrupt an investigation into his involvement in some cases of corruption under the purview of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

“The OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta a wanted fugitive. Mr Ofori Atta, you have two choices, you can return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or face the consequences”, “he is a fugitive from justice”, Mr. Agyebeng said at a press conference.

However, the raid which occurred coincidentally during the period when the Special Prosecutor was having his press conference is allegedly said to have been orchestrated by the National Security.

This became apparent when surveillance footage of Richard Jakpa and the soldiers entering the private residence was leaked to the media.

Following the intrusion, Mahama Ayariga has rendered an apology to the former Minister saying “H.E. President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to ensuring that the rights and liberties of every individual are respected. We have received assurances from the office of the National Security Coordinator that the incident was not intended to happen”.

He emphasized; “That occurrence is most regrettable and unfortunate and he [Jakpa] wants to give this house his words and assurances that a thing like that should never happen again… personally extend my apologies to the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and I believe the issue should suffice.”

But to Kwesi Pratt, this apology is baseless.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, he described it as a “misjudgment”, wondering why Ayariga would apologize.

“It is misjudgment on the part of Ayariga…Ayariga had no basis for that apology”, he exclaimed.

He disclosed that some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress and legal practitioners share similar sentiments.
