Okatakyie Afrifa’s Arrest By NIB Was ‘Useless’ – Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, has slammed the Mahama administration over the arrest of broadcaster, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, by national security operatives.

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, host of the popular social media show “For The Records”, was picked up by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) after writing his exams at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

In the late hours of the day, according to Henry Nana Boakye, affectionately called Nana B, Okatakyie Afrifa was accosted by the operatives who were driving a DV-plated vehicle and whisked away.

In an interview with Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Nana B disclosed the arrest was hinged on some statements that Okatakyie had made regarding the illegal mining menace in Ghana.

The outspoken media personality is said to have remarked that some national operatives are involved in illegal mining, locally referred to as “galamsey”, and also questioned why little to nothing is being done by the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama to curb this canker that has polluted the country’s water bodies.

To Nana B, “this arrest was just unnecessary. It was useless!”

“Who is not talking about galamsey now with everybody saying it has become worse?”, he queried, stressing “even the Minister (Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah) looks helpless”.

Though Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has been released, he is to reappear at the NIB office on Friday for further interrogation.
