Open Letter To President John Dramani Mahama: Thank You For Honoring Your Promise To Assembly Members

Daniel Twumasi Kankam

Your Excellency,

On behalf of my colleagues across the country, I extend my deepest gratitude to you for staying true to your promise to pay modest allowances to Assembly Members. As the Assemblyman for the Gyamfikrom Electoral Area in the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly, I write this open letter with immense appreciation for this significant step in recognizing and valuing our contributions to local governance.

Your declaration in today’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) has brought overwhelming joy to Assembly Members nationwide. For years, we have served our communities tirelessly, often with little to no financial support, despite being the backbone of local governance and grassroots development.

Your words, “Decentralisation has been at the heart of our governance system, yet key players in the process such as Assemblymen and women often face neglect and inadequate compensation. I did promise to pay modest allowances to our Assemblymen and women. I am committed to that promise”, are not just reassuring but a testament to your dedication to fairness, equity, and good governance.

Your Excellency, this decision reflects your deep understanding of the struggles and sacrifices of Assembly Members. It reinforces our belief in a government that listens, values, and acts in the interest of its people. With this support, we can carry out our duties more effectively, ensuring the voices of our constituents are heard and their development needs addressed.

As we celebrate this historic commitment, we pledge our unwavering dedication to the service of our communities and the nation. Ghana’s progress begins at the local level, and with this support, we are more motivated than ever to work towards the betterment of our districts, municipalities, and regions.

Thank you once again, Your Excellency, for standing by your word and demonstrating that leadership is about action, not just promises. The Assembly Members of Ghana will forever remember this bold and commendable step.

Yours in service,
Daniel Twumasi Kankam (Honorable)
Assemblyman, Gyamfikrom Electoral Area
New Juaben North Municipal Assembly
Eastern Region
