ORAL Has No Legal Basis – Kokofu Slams Prez Mahama

Henry Kwabena Kokofu

Henry Kwabena Kokofu, former Chief Executive of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has challenged the legitimacy of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

The former EPA boss found the team and their authority having no legal basis to execute the mandate given to them by President John Dramani Mahama.

The ORAL was formed during the transitional period with the task to investigate corruption cases and ensure the prosecution of offenders as well as recover all stolen State properties.

The team consists of North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Rtd. COP Nathan Kofi Boakye, lawyer Martin Kpebu and others.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Mr. Kokofu noted that the ORAL can assume legality and authority only when it receives parliamentary approval.

He therefore wondered how the ORAL could either summon or prosecute an individual because to him, it is an illegal establishment.

“I’ve thoroughly rifled through the constitution and found nothing of this sort. So, if it is not entrenched in the constitution and Parliament hasn’t also passed any Act establishing something called the ORAL, then it completely has no legal basis”, he asserted.
