Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Clears Road For New NPP Leadership In Parliament

Ghmessenger has received reports of the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu voluntarily stepping down for a new leadership of the Caucus to be put in place.

The Suame lawmaker and current Majority Leader is said to have informed the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, of his decision to resign in order to resolve the recent conflict over the Majority reshuffle.

The Majority held a press conference a couple of days ago to refute claims that the New Patriotic Party was about to change the leadership, as a result, the Member of Parliament for Effutu cum Deputy Majority Leader, Alex Afenyo-Markin was going to take over from Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

But the Majority led by the First Deputy Speaker and Bekwai MP, Joseph Osei Owusu asserted that “the Majority Caucus has not made any changes in its leadership, the majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes to its leadership and we will tell the world and Ghana to ignore any such publication”.

He added; “We want to assure you that we have confidence in the leadership and the status quo shall remain, we are aware that upon the nomination of one of the Deputy Whips as a minister, a replacement will be made, that replacement will be made by the caucus when weaved the opportunity and the time to consider the appropriate replacement, this is all the information we have to share.”

It is however established the Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s resignation is to ensure a smooth transition, therefore make the path clear for Alex Afenyo-Markin’s ascent to the Majority Leader position.

The New Patriotic Party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua has reportedly been authorized by the President to oversee the reshuffle in the Majority Caucus and the party will announce the change soon.
