‘Our Client Is Receiving Medical Attention In USA’ – Ofori-Atta’s Lawyers To Special Prosecutor

The former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has been declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for failing to make himself available for investigations into some corruption-related cases involving him.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, in a press conference, cited Ofori-Atta in some shady deals which involves the infamous Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) of which some contacts were signed under his watch and during the erstwhile Akufo-Addo regime.

Mr. Agyebeng, in his presentation, gives the impression Ofori-Atta has fled with his family out of Ghana to avoid charges but according to his lawyers, he is in the United States on health grounds.

Although the OSP takes this account with a pinch of salt, a letter has surfaced on social media purportedly coming from Ofori-Atta’s lawyers to corroborate their assertion.

“Please find attached hereto a document indicating that our client is receiving medical attention at the Mayo Clinic in the USA, detailing his appointments and timelines suggestive of a post-March date when our client may be able to be in Ghana”, a part of the letter read.
