Parliament Is Not A ‘Boxing Ring’ – NAPO Blasts ‘Unruly’ NDC MPs
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, NPP Vice Presidential Candidate and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has strongly condemned what he described as “unruly conduct” displayed by the NDC Minority Caucus in Parliament last Tuesday, 22nd October, 2024.
He told the NDC MPs who deliberately sought to provoke the Majority Caucus into violent confrontation with them by taking over their seats in Parliament that Parliament is not a boxing ring.
“The free-for-all fight and bloodshed they (NDC Minority) were expecting in Parliament last Tuesday, we didn’t give them. We didn’t give them because we are disciplined and matured. We understand that Parliament is a place for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring. Unlike them, the NPP always prioritizes the peace and stability of this country”, he noted.
The Manhyia South legislator who has been in Parliament for almost 16 years advised his colleague parliamentarians on the NDC side to stick to their primary mandate of enacting relevant legislations and championing the welfare of their constituents.
He stressed that boasting about engaging in fights and other violent confrontations in Parliament is most reprehensible and unbecoming of the members.
NAPO as he is popularly called made these remarks at a stakeholders’ engagement on Thursday, 24th October, 2024, while addressing students of the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College as part of his constituency-focused tour of the Greater Accra Region.
He also highlighted the achievements of the government in the health sector with particular mention of the Agenda 111 policy and the restoration of trainee nurses’ allowances that was canceled under the erstwhile Mahama-led NDC regime.
He implored them to continue reposing their confidence in the New Patriotic Party and vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to better their lives.
