Scrapping E-Levy Is In The Right Order – NPP Guru Commends Mahama

Sam Pyne

Sam Pyne, former Mayor of Kumasi, has lauded the Mahama government for scrapping the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy, popularly called E-Levy.

In fulfillment of President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to remove E-Levy and betting tax, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed during his presentation of the 2025 budget to Parliament that the administration will deliver on this promise.

In respect of this, Parliament on Wednesday, March 26, passed a bill to abolish the 1.5% tax on electronic transactions such as mobile money transfers, bank transfers and online payments.

The bill awaits the President’s assent to be fully enforced to benefit the citizens.

Discussing this development on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and former Mayor welcomed the move.

Sam Pyne alluded to the 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s pledge to equally cancel these taxes, hence, to him, it is appropriate that the Mahama administration has done the needful.

“E-Levy or no E-Levy, we all said we will remove it. So, if they have scrapped it, it is in order”, he remarked.
