Sports Authority Boss In Trouble!!! Receives GHC169k From Stonebwoy But Tells Parliamentary Committee 70,000

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi on Monday, February 5 appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) and was grilled over his office’s lease of the Accra Sports Stadium for concerts during last year’s festive season.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) leased the stadium for music concerts and other social activities outside the Sports sector with Ghana’s dancehall artiste Stonebwoy having one of his historic events at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The NSA boss was summoned before PAC and a probe was held into the use of the stadium for non-Sporting activities.

During the probe, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and a member of the Committee, Sam George subjected Prof. Twumasi and the Chief Accountant of the NSA to intense and intensive scrutiny assessing their financial records.

It was established during the probe that the NSA had received GHC 70,000 from Stonebwoy’s management and other monies amounting to GHC 250,000 but the monies were paid into separate accounts, one in Accra and the other in Kumasi.

“You decided to rent out the stadium for a social event. The Burniton Music Group paid GHC 70,000. Is the GHC 70,000 enough to restore the damage that was done to the pitch”, Sam George queried.

The Director-General, in his reply, stated; “The calculation which we have done for the various events which have a certain component which we call the pitch insurance cover is able to restore.”

This answer, to Hon. Sam George, wasn’t satisfactory enough as the NSA boss provided little information to corroborate his claim.

Following the Committee’s interrogation into the NSA issues, another bombshell has been dropped.

It has been found out that the actual money that Burniton Music Group, management of Stonebwoy, paid to the Authority to rent out the stadium for their music concert was GHC 169,000.

According to an interview with Sam George on Adom FM monitored by Ghmessenger, the NSA boss under-declared the amount they received from Stonebwoy.

Prof. Twumasi, according to revelations by the MP, failed to tell the Committee the exact amount the artiste paid to them, hence only declaring GHC 70,000.

“…after the programme, my source who gave me the information to attack him (Twumasi) said to me that, Honorable, we are really destroying this nation. I asked why and he replied that it is not true that Stonebwoy paid 70,000…He said I will show you the evidence and I said I need it because, for me, I don’t say something without evidence.

“Stonebwoy paid 169,000…and the man is declaring 70,000, almost 100,000 difference; in fact, 99,000 difference. I was really shocked yesterday. You can call Stonebwoy and asked about this but I have seen the contract they signed with him. My source has sent me the copy and payment receipt. Stonebwoy first paid 70,000 and another cheque of  70,000 and a final payment of 29,000. So, when you do the calculation, it is 169,000”, Sam George disclosed.
