Stop Making Cash And Items’ Donations To Victims Of Market Fire Outbreak – Yaw Asani Tano
Yaw Asani Tano has admonished political figures to stop making donations to victims of market fire outbreaks in the country.
His admonition is in reference to former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s donation of 200,000 cedis and 1000 cement bags to cushion affected traders of Adum market fire as well as support the market’s reconstruction.
The former Veep made this donation upon his visit to the scene on Tuesday, March 25.
But to Yaw Asani Tano, a socio-political commentator, it is needless for such donations to be made.
“Politicians, I think, should desist from this kind of gestures. Rather, encourage the people to, as it were, especially the traders, make sure that your works are insured”, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
He also suggested the market should be mordernized.
“This massive market fire does not require 1000 bags of cement from every individual to reconstruct it. Government must intervene and redesign the whole system, creating the pathways, everything to ensure it is a mordernized or mordern market.”
