Student Indiscipline: Teachers Can Do Little To Nothing To Discipline Students If Parents Don’t Train Their Children Well – NUGS President

Daniel Korley Botchway, the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), has raised concerns over the alarming rate of indiscipline in various schools in the country.
Recently, reports about violent clashes between schools have been rife.
Days ago, some students of the Christian Methodist Senior High School attacked their colleague, mercilessly beating the victim on suspicion that he had stolen a phone.
Though the victim denied the allegation, it however did little to prevent his mates from inflicting injuries on him.
Four students have been arrested in connection with this violence.
This notwithstanding, students’ indiscipline keeps going on the various campuses.
Commenting on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, the NUGS President, worried about the current trend of indiscipline in schools, partly blamed parents and guardians for this problem.
To him, this problem majorly stems from poor family upbringing.
He noted that the teachers can do little to instill discipline in students if their parents and guardians do not strictly train them to conform to acceptable societal values.
He appealed to parents and guardians to stop shirking their responsibilities, stressing the school is only a microcosm of the current happenings.
“I believe that the issue of indiscipline is a nationwide problem and we are only seeing it manifest in the schools because that is a place we expect discipline and we are not seeing it”, he said.
