Students’ Misbehavior On Campus Is Becoming ‘Dangerous’ – Dr. Otchere-Ankrah Warns GES & Ministry Of Education

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has warned the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ministry of Education against a disturbing trend going on in the various schools.
He cautioned the education authorities against the much freedom given to the students in that, today, teachers can hardly discipline them.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah raised an alarm over a recent incident where a student was caught in their possession of a gun.
His caution is in relation to a 16-year-old Form Two student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) who has been arrested for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.
The Governance Analyst and lecturer at the University of Ghana cautioned that the teachers have almost been rendered powerless due to GES directives that restrain them from taking punitive measures to prevent the students from misbehaving.
To him, if care is not taken and with the current incident of a student bringing an offensive weapon to school, the situation will be dicier than it is.
“What is happening here? Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education, be careful…Teachers are under attack today,” she exclaimed.
He stressed; “Let’s go back to where we got lost because something is really missing in our system.”
