‘Tell Your Sons To Resign From Black Stars’ – Abedi Pele Told

Bernard Allotey Jacobs, former NDC Central Regional Chairman, has asked the Ayew brothers to resign from playing for the Black Stars.
Allotey Jacobs, discussing Ghana’s match against Mozambique that led to the departure of the Black Stars from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently happening in Ivory Coast, found it difficult understanding how Ghana could secure the leading position in the game only for Dede Ayew to come in and create a chance for the Mozambicans to equalize.
Dede Ayew committed a penalty which was executed by a Mozambican player to make it 2:1 in favor of Black Stars and Ghana’s goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, also dashed them another goal to make the score even after he touched a ball that was comfortably on its way over the line to give the Stars a goal-kick.
Commenting during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” discussion programme, Allotey Jacobs pleaded with soccer legend and father of the Ayews, Abedi Pele, to advise his sons.
“If I were Abedi Pele, I’d tell my children not to play the Black Stars again”, he said.
Allotey also cautioned Ghanaians against their incessant use of negative words on the Black Stars saying “words are powerful. My advice to Ghanaians, in politics, in Sports, in religion; words are very, very powerful”, to wit their choice of words could either make or break the Black Stars.
AFCON Exit
The Black Stars lost their first game to Cape Verde but managed to be on the lead in their second match against Egypt with Ghana’s starboy and West Ham player, Mohammed Kudus, giving the Stars 2 goals.
But the joy of the players and fans were short-lived with Egypt equalizing to draw a tie with the Black Stars.
Ghana’s game with Mozambique on Monday, January 22, was supposed to be the breakthrough that Ghanaians were looking for but it also ended up breaking the hearts of Ghanaians.
Jordan Ayew shot the team into a lead with 2 goals, sending the players and the nation into ecstasy but once again the team failed to protect their goals, hence dashing the Mozambicans 2 goals at the eleventh hour of the match.
This made the Black Stars’ aim of progressing in the tournament very slim although, per soccer mathematics, the team stood a chance to move on to the Round of 16 only if Cameroon were defeated in their match against Gambia.
The Cameroon against Gambia game rather ended up giving Ghanaians a nightmare as the Cameroonians beat Gambia to officially drive Ghana out of the tournament.
GFA Decision
Following the Black Stars’ elimination, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) declared that the Head Coach, Chris Hughton, has been sacked and the technical team dissolved with immediate effect.
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.”
“The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars”, the GFA said.
