‘They Played With No Motivation…Like They’re Here For Fun’ – Adebayor Slams Black Stars

Emmanuel Adebayor

Togolese soccer legend, Emmanuel Adebayor is unhappy with the performance of the Black Stars in the African Cup of Nations.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who has registered his name in football history, commenting after Ghana’s 2:2 tie with Mozambique on Monday, January 22, 2024, saw no need for the Black Stars to remain in the tournament.

“I don’t know where they want to go because I think the best place for them is to fly back to Ghana, so that they can all go back to their clubs. If Ghana even qualifies, what are they going to do in the next stage?”, he said.

To him, the players had no sense of nationalism, therefore failing to make the necessary sacrifices on the pitch to move Ghana forward in the tournament.

“I’m not surprised, I’m rather disappointed. Coming into this game, they [Ghana] knew they had their destiny in their hands, they knew they had to win, they knew this was a key game for the country but the way they played is just unbelievable.

“They played with no motivation, they played with no communication, they played like they’re just here for fun and for me it’s completely wrong”, Adebayor told Sports journalist, George Addo Jr.
