‘This Is A Good Budget’ – GUTA Vice President Applauds Mahama Over 2025 Budget

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance

Clement Boateng, the Vice President of Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA), has lauded the Mahama administration over their 2025 budget aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.

The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Tuesday, March 11, presented the first budget statement of this year to Parliament and highlighted measures that the government is taking to address the economic crisis facing Ghanaians.

Among the numerous issues he raised before the House are the betting tax and Electronic Transaction or Transfer Levy (E-Levy) which almost all Ghanaians expected to hear these taxes have been removed.

During his presentation, the Finance Minister announced the government will abolish the taxes.

Dr. Forson stated; “We will abolish the 10% withholding tax on winnings from the lottery, otherwise known as the Betting Tax; we will abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) of 1%.”

To the GUTA Vice President, Clement Boateng, this budget is “good news” to the business community and the citizenry at large.

“With the removal of the nuisance taxes, I will say this is a good budget”, he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.

He however shared his slightest disappointment saying the union expected the Minister to also announce a cancellation of the Special Import Levy but nothing related to this levy was communicated to Ghanaians.
