This Is Not Fun! – Prof. Smart Sarpong Fires Energy Minister Over Missing 1300 ECG Containers

Senior Researcher, Professor Smart Sarpong has taken a swipe at Energy Minister, John Jinapor, over his frequent press conferences on the Electricity Company Ghana’s (ECG) missing containers at the Tema port.
The Minister, who appeared before Parliament months ago revealing 3000 containers were sitting at the port and later revised the number to 2500 as reported in the media, days ago also disclosed that over 1300 ECG containers had gone missing from the port.
He announced this in a press conference but assured Ghanaians he would clamp down on the perpetrators.
Following the Minister’s revelations, it is widely reported that 40 of the containers have been found in a warehouse belonging to an unidentified Indian national.
Subsequently, operatives of National Security has arrested about 12 Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian in possession of some of the ECG materials.
The suspects, who are linked to two aluminum smelting companies located in Shai Hills, were apprehended on Thursday.
Commenting on the ongoing development, Prof. Smart Sarpong found it difficult wrapping his head around the news.
He wondered how containers could magically vanish from the port into people’s warehouses without the notice of the authorities.
To him, the press conferences by the Minister are becoming too many and that waht he expects from Jinapor is to take action against the offenders and retrieving all the containers.
Prof. Sarpong asked the Minister to fish out the port authorities or workers who ensured the containers got missing and punish them, stressing “this is not fun. We don’t want press conference over this. National Security and everyone should be questioned. In fact, the authorities at the port, by now, should have been the first point to be investigated”.
