Torkornoo’s Removal Petition: CJ’s Lawyers Give ‘Political Twist’ To Her Case
Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a Governance Analyst and lecturer at the University of Ghana – Business School, has questioned the composition of the legal team for the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, is represented by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, as she challenges petitions to dismiss her.
Her legal team filed an injunction application at the Supreme Court seeking to restrain a committee set up by President John Mahama to investigate the petitions.
The Chief Justice’s case seeks to bar Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu from presiding or participating in any deliberations of the committee but the court has thrown out the case.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” panel discussion programme, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah wondered why the choice of Godfred Dame and other persons forming the legal team for the Chief Justice stating such representation introduces a “political twist” to the issue.
“Even the selection of their lawyers is going to give it a political twist”, he stated.
He explained that such legal representation feed the public into the notion that what is happening is a political play.
Dr. Otchere-Ankrah called for the right thing to be done to establish the truth in the CJ’s case.
“We must appear right. We must look right. We must seem right and we must do right to all manner of persons”, he stated.
