Trump Hush Money Trial: The First-Ever Criminal Trial Of An Ex-U.S. President
Stormy Daniels is at the center of the first-ever criminal trial of a former U.S. president, Julia Harte and Luc Cohen write.
The 45-year-old adult film star, who was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has built a lucrative business empire around her alleged 2006 sexual encounter with Donald Trump.
She has also earned legions of fans for her breezy retorts to those who cast her as an immoral woman. Her real name is Stephanie Clifford.
Daniels has said she and Trump had sex once, in a hotel room in 2006 when she was 27 and he was 60 and married to his third wife, Melania.
Trump has denied any such encounter with Daniels.
Trump is accused of covering up his former lawyer Michael Cohen’s $130,000 payment to Daniels in exchange for her silence before the 2016 presidential election about the sexual encounter a decade earlier.
Trump has admitted to reimbursing Cohen but denied it was connected to his presidential campaign.
