We Need Our Stolen Lands Back…Not Sending People To Jail! – Kwesi Pratt On ORAL Investigations

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt has acknowledged the work by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team stating it is a good exercise but what, to him, is important is the recovery of the public funds and assets.
The ORAL team has delivered their investigations involving 36 high-profile cases of corruption to President John Dramani Mahama who has in turn handed it over to the Attorney-General to commence prosecution.
Presenting their report to President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, February 10, 2025, Ablakwa revealed that Ghana can recover about 20 billion dollars if the government successfully retrieves the embezzled funds.
“Thirty-six cases that we have reviewed in detail if we are successful in recoveries, we can retrieve as much as $20.49 billion – 20.49 billion United States dollars! Thirty-six cases!”
“If we successfully ask people to pay the conservative market value for the lands they have looted, the experts are telling us that we can recover about $702.8 million for the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
Kwesi Pratt, addressing the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, argued that the focus of the prosecution should significantly be to retrieve the embezzled funds and assets and not about jailing the offenders.
He strongly held that getting the monies and properties back will help the nation more than sending one to jail.
“If someone has stolen State money or property, take it back”, he stressed.
