We Won’t Be Available For Parliament Business Until Ato Forson’s Trial Is Over – Minority Threatens

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has served notice not to appear in their chamber during proceedings after Speaker calls for them to resume parliamentary business today.
On May 3, 2024, the Majority Caucus petitioned the Speaker to urgently reconvene the House to address key government business items including the adoption of the 34th Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion on additional financing.
A letter from the Office of the Speaker, in response to the Majority’s petition, recalled members of House from recess to commence proceedings but the Minority say they won’t partake in this process because their leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is in court over his trial following a suit by the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, regarding a shady ambulance purchase deal.
Dr. Ato Forson was supposed to join the caucus in today’s proceedings but he couldn’t because the day clashed with his day in court.
The Minority’s boycott attempt, according to a statement issued by the Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, is in solidarity with their leader and he pledges this action will continue every time parliamentary business clashes with Dr. Ato Forson’s day in court.
“The NDC Minority Caucus will only be available for the business of Parliament after proceedings of the court have ended on the days scheduled for the hearing of the ongoing ambulance case trial…the NDC Minority will continue to solidarise and stand by its Leader anytime he is due to appear in court”, the NDC said in a statement.
